Child Support timeline

I have a quick question. I pay child support for 2 sons. It was to be paid as long as they are minors. The oldest turned 18 last October but I thought I was told that support payments had to continue until end of school year. Now school year is over as well. Can I just pay half of what I used to (now due to 1 child and not 2)?

Or are there other steps needed

No, you cannot pay half. You must file a motion to modify child support but you should be able to easily recalculate child support and enter into a new order since one of the children has aged out.

It is correct that child support does not terminate until a child turns 18 years old AND graduates high school.

Use our NC Child Support Calculator to see what your new child support obligation should be.

You’ll need to exchange updated/current income information with the other parent.
