Is this contempt?

It is unlikely the court will grant him extra time to hire an attorney. In that case, the case will go forward and both of you will represent yourself.

My ex lost custody of both kids after he was found guilty of physical abuse of oldest child, son, about 5 years ago. After a year of supervised visits an hour a week, with youngest, the court ordered that he have her 6 nights per month. My son has not seen him since. 3 years ago I filed for more CS, and it has yet to be heard. I was bombarded with harassing motions (he wanted every check I’ve written and every reciept for anything I bought or sold over $100 for last ten years, a motion to have me held in civil and criminal contaept because my son won’t see him, etc.) We were supposed to go to court this July, but the day of court his lawyer filed a motion to be dismissed as she could not work with him (it was granted!). Now we are supposed to go to court 9/10. the ex has yet to retain counsel, although he has had 2 months to get one. I think he is not hiring an attorney so he can delay court again. Can he be held in contempt? He was told to be ready to go on the 10th? How do I speed this up? I know I get back support from date of filing, but could really use it now.
