After consummating as husband and wife just hours after the ceremony my husband tells me that he lied about his ex wife that she actually lived with him up until 2 weeks before I moved in and that they had sex twice a week before she moved out. I am originally from Pennsylvania and feel tricked in to coming to NC giving up my job my home and all my belongings to be with him. Now he tells me I am stuck being married to him for one year because “the law” in NC states you must be separated for 1 year before you can file for divorce and I also can not go back to PA with out his permission. I have no job and no place to go. What do I do?
You do not need his permission to go to PA…
He is correct that you have to be separated for a year before you can get divorced in NC, but you do not need his permission to move back to Pennsylvania.
