Reasonable fee charges

My attorney has informed me that in addition to the charge of the divorce which is a flat fee, she will collect a 10% contingency fee on funds distributed during the settlement from the professional practice that my spouse built 9 years after we were married. ( we have been married for 20 and separated for over a year) She has given me the option of paying an hourly wage for the work she will need to spend on that portion of the case if I choose. Is charging a contingency fee in this situation normal practice for NC domestic cases? I have a family member who is an attorney in another state and this would be unheard of there. This attorney has a wonderful reputation but I don’t want to be taken advantage of in this situation. This charge does not seem reasonable to me. Please advise.

Thank you.

A contingency fee may be charged for equitable distribution in NC.
