What happens after you sign a separation agreement?

What happens after you sign a separation agreement?

Is it filed with the courts? (I didn’t do this, so maybe my ex did?)

And is there a hearing of some sort shortly after?

Do you really just sign it and then never hear about it again for a year when you file for a divorce?

Once the separation agreement has been signed by both parties before a notary it is a valid, binding contract between both parties, and remains forever binding unless the parties modify the agreement by way of amendment or written modification. It is not filed anywhere.
The divorce can be filed on the day after the one year anniversary that he parties separated.
