I have heard a divorce costs thousands and takes years – is this true?

Allan, that could be very true. It depends on how contentious your relationship is and if the two of you can work together at all. If the two of you want to work together then a divorce could very well be cheap and easy. But, if you have kids, lots of property and assets, and the two of you can’t agree on anything, then you could very well be looking at a lot of money. Also, you have to be separated for at least a year before you can be divorced and this requires you to be in separate residences.
The cost associated with the separation is contingent on a lot of factors. I don’t know if I could have said it better than Happily Remarried.
