In town attorney or not?

In my recent custody battle with my x, I feel like our attorney told each other more than they should have in order to get us to agreement prior to court. I know this b/c our attorney told us some things about my x that I know she wouldn’t have wanted us to know. These attorneys see each other every day and have a casual relationship. Do you think it’s better to have an out of county attoney or does it really matter?

My opinion is that attorney’s who work in the county are better able to represent their clients as they know the local procedures. I also believe that the professional relationships between attorneys are beneficial and can often help settle cases. Attorneys are bound by the client confidentiality rules, and if your ex suspects a breach she should confront her attorney and may want to consider contacting the state bar.
