New lawyer

I have hired a lawyer in August she asked for $300 interview fee and $10,000 retainer. I had to borrow the money and my gut did not feel good about this but. I wanted a bulldog because I have been manipulated by my husband so I hired this lawyer. I feel very much underrepresented and trapped do to the money that I have given. Can I switch lawyers? Can I get any money back from her for my new lawyer. The list is long of what has gone wrong. Please advise!

Wow. That is a ton of money. I am seeking a free consultation but haven’t found anyone who gives one and if that’s the kind of money it takes to get divorced in NC, I will never have it.

You are free to switch lawyers. You will have to check with your lawyer about whether or not she will issue a refund. Some attorney’s offices issue refunds or partial refunds while other offices state the retainer is nonrefundable.
